Excluding Discount Codes from Standard Bundles
In some cases, you may want to ensure that discount codes in your Shopify store apply only to regular products, and not to products sold via Standard bundles. While Bundle Builder doesn't offer a built-in feature for excluding discount codes from bundles, this can be managed through Shopify's collections and discount settings.
The following workaround allows you to exclude your Standard bundle products from any storewide discount codes while keeping all other products eligible.
Creating a Smart Collection to exclude bundle products
You’ll first need to create a new automated collection to separate out discount-eligible products from bundle products.
To create a new Smart collection:
Go to your Shopify Admin → Products → Collections.
Click Create collection and name it something like Discount Included.
Set the collection type to Smart.
Use the following condition:
Product type is not equal to
Custom Bundle
This ensures that any products with the type set to "Custom Bundle" (used by Standard bundle products) are excluded from the collection. All other products will be included automatically.
Applying your discount code to the collection
Once your Smart collection is created, you’ll need to configure your discount code to only apply to that collection.
To do this:
Go to your Shopify Admin → Discounts.
Create a new discount or edit an existing one.
Under the Applies to section, choose Specific collections.
Select your newly created Discount Included collection.
This setup ensures that your discount code will apply to all regular products in the collection, while excluding any products from Standard bundles.
What does this setup do?
Keeps your bundle pricing protected from discount interference.
Makes sure discount codes are applied only where intended.
Provides a flexible workaround without changing your bundle structure.
